What is a Korvai border, and does this saree have one?

Yes, this saree has a genuine Korvai border. Korvai is the traditional Kanchipuram technique where the contrast border is woven separately on its own warp and interlocked with the body by hand, rather than woven continuously with it. It is what allows a jamun purple body to meet a parrot-green border in a clean, durable join, and it takes considerably more skill and time than a plain contrast border.

What does the name Kalyani Mahotsavam mean?

It is named for Raaga Kalyani, one of the major raagas in Carnatic music, and belongs to our Raaga Layam of Kanchipuram collection. Each saree in that collection takes its name and character from a Carnatic raaga rather than from its colour alone.

Is fall and pico done before dispatch?

No. We do not offer fall, pico or other finishing services. The saree reaches you unfinished, so your own tailor can complete it to your preference along with the blouse.

Dry clean only, to protect the silk and the zari. Keep it away from water, perfume and deodorant, air it in shade after each wear before it goes back into the wardrobe, and store it wrapped in soft muslin so the fabric can breathe. Refold it along fresh lines from time to time so crease marks and zari stress do not set, and keep it away from moisture and direct sunlight.
